The jaws of the forceps have matching longitudinal malefemale grooves, which when the forceps are closed will offer maximum occlusion/crushing of the tissue being grasped. For this reason in veterinary surgery these forceps are commonly used in Spays, e.g. when tying off the ovarian pedicle, and in other procedures where it is very important that haemostasis is properly achieved.
