Role Summary: 

The primary responsibility of the Procurement Manager will be the managing and coordinating of all procurement activities within the Duggan Veterinary Group and ensuring cost-effective purchasing strategies that align with company goals. This includes developing purchasing strategies, improving efficiencies and processes, maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, working with internal teams regarding their supply needs and managing the procurement team in their daily activities.

 

Key Functions & Activities:

  • Reviewing of existing procurement processes to ensure maximum efficiencies are in place and propose changes where relevant.
  • Develop and maintain accurate stock forecasting processes and work with all sales teams across the company to ensure proper stock levels are maintained at all times across the product portfolio.
  • Negotiating with suppliers and vendors to secure advantageous terms.
  • Build, maintain, and manage supplier relationships to maximise value and ensure reliable delivery schedules.
  • Controlling the procurement budget and overall inventory levels to help ensure a strong working capital position for the company.
  • Ordering of stock from suppliers and coordinating approval of purchase orders.
  • Track and report key functional metrics as agreed.
  • Work with sales and marketing teams to manage inventory of short-dated, keeping write-offs to a minimum.
  • Manage slow moving stock items and assist in developing strategies for the promotion of same.
  • Alert management to any price changes to existing ranges and work with them to maintain margins and profitability on all product ranges.
  • Manage the procurement team within the company and assist in their recruitment, training and development.
  • Ensure supplier performance meets internal quality, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Promoting a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs.
  • Due to the changing nature of the business requirements, the role may change from time to time. Should this occur, your manager will go through those changes at that time
  • Any other reasonable request from your manager.

 

Person Specification:

  • Recognised qualifications in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a procurement or buying capacity, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills, with commercial acumen for cost analysis and contract management.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, build stakeholder relationships, and manage suppliers.
  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to independently prioritise workload.
  • Understanding of supply chain management, purchasing/accounting software, and inventory control processes
