Welcoming LWETB Mullingar Animal Care Assistant Students to Our Clinical Skills Lab
Recently, we were delighted to welcome a group of 2nd Year Animal Care Assistant students from LWETB Mullingar (Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board), accompanied by their Course Co-Ordinator, Aoife Joyce.
The purpose of the visit was to give students the opportunity to develop and complete essential practical skills that will form a vital part of their training.
A Hands-On Day of Learning
Our wet lab became a hub of activity throughout the day, with students rotating through a variety of practical exercises, including:
-
Animal restraint
-
Instrument care and packing
-
Surgical preparation of patients
-
Clinical examinations
These skills will be invaluable as students progress through their course and put their learning into practice upon graduation next year.
Guided by Experience
Our CPD team, Sarah and Siobhán, worked closely with Aoife to guide the groups through each station, ensuring that every student left with greater confidence in their new abilities. The day also gave students the chance to gain hands-on exposure to a wide range of veterinary equipment and instruments they might not encounter in the classroom.
Looking Ahead
The visit was a fantastic success, and we are proud to play a role in supporting the next generation of Animal Care Assistants as they prepare for their future careers. We look forward to welcoming more student groups to our Clinical Skills Lab in Tipperary in the months ahead.
