Periodontal disease is the most common infectious disease of adult dogs. It is a progressive, cyclical inflammatory disease of the supporting structures of the teeth and is the main cause of dental disease and early tooth loss in dogs and cats. It affects over 87% of dogs and 70% of cats over three years of age.
Plaque biofilm and calcified tartar form in the absence of adequate oral care. Bacteria produce a biofilm which mineralises into calcified tartar. This biofilm makes bacteria more resistant to antimicrobials, host defences, disin-fectants etc.
The Plaqtiv+ Range distributed by Duggan Veterinary Supplies contains XPERSIV patented technology (anti-bio-film). When a Plaqtiv+ product enters the mouth, the binding agents in XPERSIV technology attaches to minerals, making them unavailable to form tartar.
Without these minerals the biofilm is impaired. Hard calcified tartar begins to soften in this environment so it can easily be broken up by chews/wipes/toothpastes/dental diets
The Plaqtiv+ Water Additive for dogs and cats is the first EU water additive with Veterinary Oral Health C (VOHC) approval and is scientifically proven to reduce tartar. A 21-25% reduction in tartar was observed in studies of use of the water additive (Animalcare Plaqtiv+ efficacy study, Animalcare Dental Market Research Study. March 2021).
In a randomised controlled study of 18 dogs for 30 consecutive days (Animal-care Plaqtiv+ Safety Assessment), clinical observations, oral assessments, body weight measurements, hematology, serum chemistry, and coagulation profile were performed. There was no evidence of adverse events related to consumption of Plaqtiv+ water additive and the safety of Plaqtiv+® water additive was demonstrated at up to 5 times the recommended dose for 30 consecutive days.
In addition to the science behind it, the Plaqtiv+ Water Additive is simple to use and implement into a pet’s daily routine. 2 capfuls of the solution are added to 600mls of the pet’s water. The product is unflavoured, meaning palatability and intake of water is unnaffected.
The implementation of a user-friendly vet-only product into your patient’s daily routine (pre or post dental procedures or as an ongoing maintenance) ensures both compliance from the pet and owner, and proven efficacy in reduction of tartar.
