The Petmania Ruby Heart Awards recognise and celebrate the remarkable impact pets have on their owners, workplaces, and communities throughout Ireland. The awards highlight organisations and individuals who understand the important role animals play in improving wellbeing, fostering connections, and enhancing quality of life.
This year’s Pet-Friendly Workplace Award was deservedly awarded to Sonas Nursing Home, Cloverhill. Their innovative and compassionate pet-friendly policy demonstrates how meaningful animal companionship can be for both residents and employees.
For many residents entering long-term care, one of the most difficult adjustments can be leaving beloved pets behind. Sonas Nursing Home has embraced a policy that helps bridge that gap by welcoming visits from a variety of animals, including residents’ own pets whenever possible. These visits provide comfort, familiarity, and emotional connection, bringing smiles, conversation, and moments of joy to residents throughout the home.
The benefits extend beyond the residents. Staff members are also encouraged to bring their pets to visit, creating a warm and welcoming environment for everyone. These interactions help strengthen relationships between residents and staff, boost morale, and contribute to a positive workplace culture where wellbeing is prioritised.
The event itself was exceptionally well organised and inspiring. Congratulations to Petmania Ireland for hosting such a fantastic celebration, and special thanks to the wonderful MC for the day, Fionnuala Moran, whose enthusiasm and professionalism helped make the occasion so fun.
